India Joins the AI Revolution with Yotta’s ‘myShakti’ Powered by DeepSeek | Darshan Hiranandani
India is on the move of AI self-reliance and lately launched the country’s first fully sovereign generative AI chatbot named myShakti. The platform has been developed by Yotta Data Services and is built on the DeepSeek open-source AI model. It operates entirely on Indian servers and ensures fair data privacy as well as strict security. myShakti is deployed at Yotta’s NM1 data center and runs on a powerful infrastructure by utilizing 128 H100 GPUs. It is currently in a beta version and accessible for free at myShakti.ai website.
Hiranandani Group CEO Darshan Hiranandani and Yotta Data Services chairman described the newl platform as a response to the call of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to host DeepSeek within India. He emphasized that the launch aligns with India’s goal of reducing dependence on foreign AI systems and strengthening its technological sovereignty.
myShakti is equipped with built-in feedback mechanism and designed to refine as well as improve performance of the chatbot over time. Yotta aims to accelerate AI adoption in India by lowering infrastructure costs and making AI accessible to businesses, researchers and startups. Yotta Data Services CEO and co-founder highlighted that the open-source nature and low compute requirements of DeepSeek reduce AI costs. He compared it as a shift witnessed in the mobile revolution and the phase transformed India. He described the moment as India’s “Sputnik moment for AI” as it is a turning point that could position the country as a leader in AI innovation.
DeepSeek challenges traditional AI infrastructure reliance by demonstrating that efficiency can compete with raw computational power. It used just $5.6 million worth of older GPUs for the development and has showcased the potential of reinforcement learning to train competitive AI systems. Hence, it is an opportunity for India to develop AI solutions tailored to socio-cultural, linguistic and geopolitical needs abreast to maintaining data sovereignty.
Yotta is committed to strengthening AI capabilities of India and plans to continuously enhance its generative AI solutions. The move comes as India increasingly focuses on building domestic AI models to avoid reliance on foreign technology. Tech leaders in the country have been discussing the importance of locally developed AI and particularly after the announcement of Project Stargate by US President Donald Trump last month. The need for India to have its own AI infrastructure has become a widely debated topic.
Soket AI Labs founder and CEO Abhishek Upperwal previously shared his plans to develop DeepSeek-style AI innovation in India. Ola AI platform Krutrim also integrated DeepSeek models into its cloud infrastructure. It is a move announced by founder Bhavish Aggarwal as he emphasized that India must not be left behind in AI. India’s ecosystem is witnessing a shift toward homegrown solutions that could reshape its digital future with multiple players working towards AI independence.
